At Saint John’s we have undertaken a lot of work developing a shared vision for the whole People of God. This consultation has been at various levels including ministry team, PCC, buildings team and the congregation. There are no significant differences between the various groups over our shared vision.
In a recent congregational questionnaire the prime values here at Saint John’s were perceived to be: Gospel values and justice, our diversity, our catholic heritage, mutual support, a strong welcome and our focus on evangelisation.
In response to this the PCC agreed that we seek a renewed vision of Saint John’s at the heart of the community and a desire to be faithful to God, bold and imaginative.
The primacy of worship and development of faith is central; our priority is to grow spiritually through teaching and the sacraments. Members of the church recognise the importance of the Christian vocation to praise and worship God and to be God’s presence in the world. A wide number of mission focused events have been held including a radical multi-media youth mass, a live solo performance of Mark’s Gospel and other musical events. We also strive to be a resource to the whole community which is reflected in the wide number of organisations which use the premises.
Above all, our vision is to be a place of Joy and a House of Prayer. Our desire is to be an imaginative and youthful church which is active and growing. We seek to be a voice for justice in the community and beyond and we also place high priority on pastoral care.
